Summer's Bounty

It’s hard to believe that the lovely city of Newport, Rhode Island didn’t have an official design week before now— being as it is, home to some of the East Coast’s most awe-inspiring feats of design and architecture. This summer, when the most renowned design brains in town put their heads together and organized the inaugural Newport Design Week to benefit The Newport Historical Society, it was easy to get excited.

✤ Newport Design Week ✤

We were thrilled to take in the talent and the cultural experience of New England’s best designers sharing their expertise on historical education, preservation and the fusion of modern and traditional design. Design lovers will know it was the chance of a lifetime to hear industry intel on this very special place, from the Gilded Age “cottages”, to Edith Wharton’s legacy, to stories behind the textiles and hardware in some of the prettiest homes in America.

✤ A Summer's Bounty ✤

Of course, if there’s one thing designers love nearly as much as historical architecture, it’s a beautifully set table, and Casa Branca was happy to oblige with a traditional clambake to celebrate. Our hosts, Anne Fairfax and Richard Sammons of Fairfax & Sammons Architecture, enjoyed corn on the cob, coleslaw, cornbread and blueberry shortcake, alongside guests and favorite designers like Alex Papachristidis, Suzanne Kasler and Charlotte Barnes.

✤ Recreate the Look ✤

For the ultimate summer palette, take our cue with a tablescape composed of Casa Branca’s woven palm Lobster Napkin Rings, scarlet-rimmed Rigato Porcelain Plates, Poldina LED Table Lamps, and Raffia Hurricanes. Don’t forget to highlight your seasonal bounty with bright summer blooms, wildflowers, and fresh produce, (ours were by Nikki Petus at Strega Flora– our favorite floral artist), and enjoy!
