With much joy, we welcome our dear friend Gilbert Halaby, the painter, poet and artisan, for a solo exhibition in West Palm Beach. Presented by Casa Branca and the Roman gallery Maja Arte Contemporanea, APOGEE OF LIGHT will open at the Casa Branca Atelier & Showroom on March 7ᵗʰ.

Gilbert is a Lebanese-Italian artist whose primary oil colors all but sing from the linen and canvas on which he paints them. More than twenty years after leaving his hometown village to settle in Rome, he takes inspiration from the coastal landscapes of Beirut and daily life in the Italian city where he now lives. We love how the bold brush strokes conjure the houses and figures of the artist’s memories into elegant, relatable shapes, in a Mediterranean palette with more than a hint of the seaside about it.

Halaby is a keen observer, he has sharpened his senses in order to go beyond, finding himself in others. Every place in his fairytale universe represents all things and infinitum, like pursuing the multifaceted archetype that resides in the fibres of our being, pulsating with our very existence. Every tree, every home is now and always simultaneously near and far, surrounded by an enduring yet indescribable aura. It represents the home and the tree that belongs to each one of us. A sacred matter. Not an icon, nor simply an image, but a symbol.

For every solo exhibition he presents, Gilbert prepares a poem - a letter from adulthood to the child he once was, to tell the boy what became of his dreams. It is a beautiful gesture that aligns us with the artist and the work, and we adore his method of creating an emotional connection with us, the viewers. Gilbert reads the complete poem to ushere.
