Scottish tartan can be traced as far back as the fourth century AD. While early designs had no underlying meaning, in the 18th and 19th centuries strong associations developed linking particular designs to towns, clans, and families. Regardless of its specific associations, tartan is a powerful symbol and a beautiful pattern, and it adds strength and warmth to any room.
