✤ Q & A ✤
What made you choose Casa Branca for this space?
I was drawn to Casa Branca’s fabric collection because of its timelessness and quality. With a young family (and the addition of a very active puppy!), I chose the Giardino Sky performance fabric for our sectional, and it’s been a lifesaver. The room had previously been bright and playful, but for its next chapter, I wanted a more sophisticated palette to mature with my family. The Damasco, Lino Zig Zag and Vimini were all a match made in heaven and each played an important role.
Where do you draw your design inspiration from?
Each project has a different origin story. I once designed a room around the colors in an Hermès scarf! Other times a client will voice a love of a certain color or artwork that is dear to them. I make sure the rest of the room follows suit. My favorite part of the process is feeling people out and assessing what their needs are.
Favorite Casa Branca fabric, wallpaper, or item :)
Picking a favorite is no easy feat, but I would have to say the Vimini pattern. I used the wallpaper for my foyer, and the fabric for family room pillows. It’s a versatile, small print that works in any space, and makes me happy every time I see it. Honestly, I think that happy feeling is the root of any good design.
Go-to hostess gift?
When I’m visiting someone’s home, I love to bring a candle or accessory that goes with the decor. It’s a thoughtful touch that makes the host know that you cared about their taste.
What is your signature summer cocktail or meal for entartaining?
I always end up making many different drinks, depending on my guests tastes, and what’s in season. I keep a full herb garden at the cottage in Maine where we spend the summer. Last night I made a simple lemon-lavender gimlet garnished with a lemon wheel, pansy and a lavender sprig. The recipe is 2 parts vodka, 1 part fresh lemon juice, 1 part lavender simple syrup and 1 part club soda.
Favorite scent for the home?
Aerin Lauder’s AERIN Mediterranean Honeysuckle Scented Candle. It’s absolutely perfect in every way. I always add the rattan sleeve for an extra touch.
Tips for designing with color and pattern?
I find that the trick is mixing both large and small prints. I typically won’t incorporate two very small or two large scale patterns. Color, on the other hand, is a bit more like magic– it’s not as easily explained. When I know I’ve perfected a color combination, my heart starts racing and I’m filled with excitement for the client presentation.
